“Daydream Believer” from the legendary 60’s American band The Monkees is a personal favourite of mine primarily because it is one of the few songs I remember so vividly. I wasn’t alive when the song originally came out so how this song became a memorable song from my childhood is still a mystery. Nevertheless, it has a nice, dreamy and happy tune that is catchy and memorable and can bring a smile to anyone’s face.
The song eventually the Monkees’ 3rd and last song to reach number 1 in the US and stayed there for 4 consecutive weeks. Their previous chart toppers had been “I’m A Believer” and “Last Train To Clarksville.” The Monkees were formed in 1963 specifically for an American TV series called The Monkees and were originally just given vocal roles for the songs they were given to sing. However, with time, they were given complete control over the production of their music.
The highlight of this song is the catchy and memorable chorus which transmits a great feeling of happiness, glee and positivity to the audience in saying that you should cheer up. The song explores how happiness is not dependent on what you have and that it can achieved no matter the circumstances.
I truly hope you embrace this song as much as I have. Enjoy!
